The Mountain Retreat Concept

The "mountain retreat" concept as envisioned by Dr. Logan is a place where one gets away from the stressors of everyday life, a place where one could come to find rest and rejuvenation.  This place would offer the opportunity to buy land and build a weekend get-away home. It would be a wilderness setting, tucked in a secluded woods,  and with breathtaking views of distant blue mountain ridges.  The parcels would be large enough to be isolated from ones neighbors if desired.  This would be a place where nature would be respected and residents would be environmentally sensitive.  They would avoid pollution as much as possible -- protecting the water, soil, trees, herbs and all that the mountain has to offer.  The community would remain rustic with hiking trails, some gravel roads, and a nature reserve. Yet the community would be near many kind of recreation.  This is the concept that has been applied to Carolina Vistas and Sassafras Ridge.

About Sassafras Ridge

Sassafras Ridge Mountain Retreat is a beautiful mountaintop community nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina.  The idea was conceived in 1989 by Dr. Arike Logan as part of her dual career as medical doctor and real estate developer.  She envisioned the retreat as a private, relatively hidden community where one could escape the woes of life… rest and recuperate in an environment that coddles you into peace, relaxation, and restoration of body and soul.

Sassafras Ridge is a place where you buy land and build your personal retreat -- a fashionable chalet which is to be passed down in your family for generations to come.  It is a place to which all can come for solace and fraternization with sisters and brothers of like mind and spirit.

In 1992 the first phase of Sassafras Ridge was began with 165 acres of land.  Now Sassafras Ridge and Carolina Vistas contain 620 acres and extends into two states.  More than 100 families own land in Sassafras -- yet it continues to be the wilderness environment it was intended to be.

Carolina Vistas at Sassafras Ridge

The latest addition to Sassafras Ridge is a new development called Carolina Vistas.  Like the main part of Sassafras Carolina Vistas has spectacular views of the Blue Ridge mountains overlooking three states – Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia.  It features springtime blooms from its many wild flowers, medicinal herbs and flowering shrubs.  In summer you are lulled by its subtropical vibe.  In fall the sweeping colors of red, yellow, salmon, and powdery pinks paint the mountains as far as the eye can see.

This new section (which is contiguous with the original Sassafras Ridge) will feature paved main roads, underground power and water, and a community pavilion.

Right now a small lake is being built, and creeks and springs course through this wilderness, Come enjoy the crimson sunsets and silvery pink sunrises, tour the community, visit the Harriet Tubman Nature Reserve, and stake a claim for your family.  Help build the Sassafras Tradition for generations to come.
