
A Brief Biography of Arike Logan, MD
Education
Dr. Arike Logan received the bachelor of science degree from the University of Memphis and went on to complete medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago campus. While in medical school Dr. Logan received numerous academic scholarships including a four-year National Medical Fellowship, a three year Martin Luther King Scholarship and a Sears and Roebuck Scholarship.
Foreign Studies
Dr. Logan was also honored to complete a medical rotation of study at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. After her work at Lagos she spent an additional four months traveling the continent studying health care delivery systems there. She visited Ghana, Liberia, Senegal, Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt and Libya before returning home.
Dual Careers in Medicine and Real Estate Development
Dr. Logan began private practice in Inglewood, California in1980. Soon after she began investing in the real estate market. For more than two decades she has continued this dual career in medicine and real estate. In 1988 she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she discovered the fantastically beautiful mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. In 1989 she purchased land in Polk County, TN and from added phased until she created the 580-acre community known as Sassafras Ridge Mountain Retreat. Most recently Dr. Logan has began a new community called Carolina Vistas at Sassafras Ridge located in Cherokee County, NC and adjacent to the TN-NC state line.
Community Service
Today Dr. Logan practices medicine on a part time basis. She focuses on nutritional healing and healthy lifestyle within a family practice setting. She has been active in community service throughout her life having served on many boards and committees. Notably she served as secretary and medical advisor for "Black American Response to the African Community" (BARAC) in the 1980's. As part of this service she traveled to Ethiopia donating her time and service to work in the famine camps during Ethiopia's time of crisis. She served of the board of Ujima Mission to Africa in Atlanta which raised money and sent youths to Ghana for an educational experience. Dr. Logan's hobbies are playing scrabble. gardening, international cooking, exploring nature, and traveling. She worships at Cathedral of Turner Chapel in Marietta, GA.
